This exhibition—the grand finale in a three-part series showcasing some of the 1,200 artworks that have come to the Mead since 2007—features an extraordinary array of art made after the Second World War, more than half of which dates to the past decade alone, and most of which has never before been presented at the Mead.

Featured works span global cultures and artistic movements, and include prints by Georges Braque, Andy Warhol, Leonard Baskin, Ay-O, Alex Katz, and Takashi Murakami; photographs by Andres Serrano, Mary Ellen Mark, Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, Jacqueline Hayden, Michael Starkman (Amherst College Class of 1974), and Sandra Matthews; and paintings by Robert Priseman, Sarah Berman, and Mark Baum.

From the U.S. to Cuba, France to Japan, Great Britain to Ukraine, the over 100 exhibited works followed diverse paths to Amherst, recorded in the generous gifts and bequests named in every label of the exhibition. Now that they have reached the Mead, they can embark on new imaginative journeys, in exhibitions, class sessions, publications, and research projects. The Mead is honored to make these works available to anyone curious to see and take inspiration from them, today and in the future.

The exhibition is accompanied by a series of artists’ talks, all free and open to the public:

Friday, February 14, 4:30 p.m., opening celebration with photographer Jacqueline Hayden
Friday, March 7, 4:30 p.m., gallery talk by photographer Michael Starkman, Class of 1974
