April 14, 2009—This week, the Mead partnered with SAFE (Saving Antiquities for Everyone) and the ICAE (Iraqi Children's Art Exchange) as part of a global observance marking the six-year anniversary of the looting of the Iraq Museum in Baghdad. Organized by Jill Bierly, University of Massachusetts doctoral canidate in Anthropology, and Claudia Leftko, coordinator of the Iraqi Children's Art Exchange, the event included a temporary installation of Iraqi children's art hung in Stearns Steeple, Docent-led presentations of the museum's holdings of ancient art in the Kunian Gallery, and a candlelight vigil in the Mead's courtyard.
