July 8, 2009—Assistant Collections Manager, Inga Stevens, fired up the study room's new microscope today. Purchased with funds from the Friends of the Mead Art Museum, this Mantis Elite is a mid-magnification stereo microscope with LED illumination, an articulated arm stand, and superior ergonomics for better hand-eye coordination. Given the intricate way in which most work sof art were painstakingly made — minute brushtrokes, inscriptions on coins, etc. — and the inevitable wear objects sustain over time, the new microscope will allow thorough research of the higherst caliber.
