October 8, 2009—Today, the Mead's preparator Tim Gilfillan will add a very large mat to Closed Ward #14 (The Three Beds), an etching and aquatint by the late artist Michael Mazur, Class of 1957. First, Tim will secure the print's position within the mat using a series of light weights; then, he'll apply small amounts of wheat paste to pieces of Japanese paper, which will be used as hinges to hold the artwork in place against the mat's backing.

The print is one of many works to be featured in the forthcoming memorial exhibition in the Eli Marsh Gallery in Fayerweather Hall, which opens to the public on October 23rd. After the exhibition, the print will be stored in its mat for safe keeping and safer handling when transfered to and from the William Green Study Room.
