February 12, 2010—This week, the Mead said “Au revoir, bon voyage” and the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza exclaimed “Hola!” to Claude Monet's Morning on the Seine, Giverny. Museum staffers watched preparator Tim Gilfillan and collections manager Stephen Fisher pack the painting into its large, custom-fitted shipping crate. Director Lizzie Barker then couriered the work to Madrid, overseeing every detail of the 54-hour shipping and installation process. The painting is being featured in the Thyssen's exhibition Monet and Abstraction, which runs from February 23 to May 30, 2010; it will subsequently travel to Paris for the Musée d'Orsay’s retrospective Monet, on view from October 2010 to January 2011.
