April 21, 2011—As a culminating project of her year-long internship, Kendra Stern (Class of 2011), is preparing an annotated, visual essay on Latin American identities with works of art in the Mead’s collection. In the images included here, Kendra examines photographs by Manuel Alvarez Bravo (Mexican, 1902-2002) and Vik Muniz (Brazilian, born 1961). When finished, this project will serve as a model for other planned thematic essays that will be made available to the public through the Mead’s website.

As the Faculty Coordinator Intern, Kendra has worked closely with Pamela Russell, Andrew W. Mellon Coordinator of College Programs, to help facilitate faculty and student use of artworks in the museum’s collection for coursework and research. When not at the Mead, this art enthusiast spends much of her time breaking records in the pool as Amherst’s swimmer extraordinaire. We couldn't feel prouder of her recent records in the pool and her selection as National Swimmer of the Year!
