November 19, 2013—How many museum employees does it take to change a light bulb?
At the Mead, the job of replacing burned-out bulbs falls to preparator Tim Gilfillan. And his burden has just gotten a little bit lighter. As part of our larger effort to positively impact the environment by making eco-friendly choices, the Mead has made the switch from using halogen light bulbs to lighting up the galleries with their far more energy-efficient LED counterparts. LED bulbs can reduce energy consumption by up to, and sometimes more than, 75%. The result is a win-win for both Amherst and the environment. What’s not to love?
