The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded Amherst College's Mead Art Museum a $500,000 grant.
The three-year grant is designed to strengthen the academic role of the museum's collections and programs.
According to a college press release, the grant will allow the museum to create a full-time position of coordinator of college programs. The coordinator's primary purpose will be to expand the Mead's efforts to engage faculty in teaching using original works of art.
The coordinator will also work closely with the museum's curators to increase awareness of the art collection as a cross-disciplinary resource for teaching and research.
