Before submitting your request, we ask that you consider the following:
- Events and activities hosted at the Mead must relate meaningfully to Amherst College's art collection and must serve the educational Mission of the Mead Art Museum.
- The Mead is unable to fund events generated by other college departments or by outside groups. Costs specific to hosting such events, including additional security staffing and special cleaning services, are charged to the organizer. The museum's events coordinator is happy to provide prospective organizers with estimates of such expenses in advance of a booking.
- Upon advance request, members of the museum's staff or volunteer docents program are pleased to provide brief tours or museum introductions at special events.
- The Mead holds some catered receptions, considered on a case-by-case basis depending on the works of art on view. In such instances, to minimize the risk to the artwork, food is restricted to single, bite-sized portions that are not sticky, crumbly, greasy, or staining: sauces and dips are prohibited. All catering must be approved by the museum's events coordinator, who is happy to suggest acceptable options from local vendors.
Thank you for your interest in the Mead Art Museum, and for your understanding of the art-preservation reasons that inform the museum's event guidelines.
