Spring Break Hours (3/18–3/22)

Amherst College's Spring Break will be from March 18th to March 22nd this year. The Mead will close at 5pm that Thursday, March 21st, but otherwise keep normal hours.  

Always free, always something new to see!

The Mead Art Museum is open to the public from Tuesday–Sunday,  9 a.m.–5 p.m., and open late on Thursdays until 10 p.m. during the school year.

The Mead is located in the heart of Amherst College’s campus in Amherst, Massachusetts. The town lies approximately two hours west of Boston, three hours north of New York City, and two hours east of Albany. The main entrance to the College is on South Pleasant Street near the intersection of MA Routes 9 and 116.

Centrally located on campus, the museum is close to other points of interest, such as the Beneski Museum of Natural History (to the northeast) and the College's Main Quadrangle (to the west).

Scheduling Group Visits

Reservations are required for all adult/community and PreK-12 school groups—guided and self-guided—that include ten or more people.

Please Note: We ask that you schedule your visit with us at least 2 weeks in advance. Your visit is not confirmed until you have received a confirmation letter by email from the Museum.

Parking

After 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends, all visitors may park in any spot on campus, including along the main quadrangle. On weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., campus parking is restricted to permit holders. During these hours, visitors are asked to park in the town's metered on-street spaces or in the nearby Boltwood parking garage: see Amherst town parking map (PDF).

Accessible Parking

Visitors to campus with any official state-issued handicap placards are permitted to park in any marked handicapped spot on campus without obtaining any additional permits from Amherst College. The closest handicapped parking to the Mead is located in front of the museum at 41 Quadrangle Drive.

Passenger Drop-off Information

  • Cars and vans may drop passengers off in front of the Mead.
  • Buses must drop off and pick up in front of Amherst College’s Converse Hall, located on Boltwood Ave. After delivering passengers, buses are welcome to park in the Hills Parking Lot for the duration of the visit. To reach the Hills Parking Lot, turn right from Boltwood Ave. onto MA Route 9. Drive one-half mile and turn right into the Hills Parking Lot.
