The Mead Art Museum is open to the public from Tuesday–Sunday,  9 a.m.–5 p.m., and open late on Thursdays until 10 p.m. during the school year.

The Mead is located in the heart of Amherst College’s campus in Amherst, Massachusetts. It is also a few blocks from downtown Amherst and the Beneski Museum of Natural History.

The Mead is also accessible by the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) bus stops, a few city blocks from the museum, providing direct service to surrounding towns. Routes and Schedules.

Parking

On weekdays between 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, campus parking is restricted to permit holders. Visitors can park in the town's metered on-street spaces or at the nearby Boltwood parking garage; see the Amherst town parking map (PDF)

Visitors may park anywhere on campus after 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.

Two accessible parking spots are at the museum's front entrance, which visitors can use at any time. 

Passenger Drop-off Information

  • Cars and vans may drop passengers off in front of the Mead.
  • Buses must drop off and pick up at Amherst College’s Converse Hall, on Boltwood Ave. Bus parking is located at the Hills Parking Lot.

Scheduling Group Visits

Reservations are required for all adult/community and PreK-12 school groups—guided and self-guided—that include ten or more people.

Please Note: We ask that you schedule your visit with us at least 2 weeks in advance. Your visit is not confirmed until you have received a confirmation letter by email from the Museum.
