2021 Town Water Treatment System Stressors
Late this summer, the Town of Amherst alerted the College of stresses on the municipal water system, and subsequently informed the broader community that “ongoing equipment maintenance may place constraints on the Town’s ability to provide treatment to some of its water sources.” As a result, the Town cautioned that it might ask water users to curtail use during certain high-use days or during emergencies. Given these things, the College has developed a plan to address water conservation measures the Town may request. If needed, we are prepared to take campuswide action and may ask the members of our community to take personal conservation steps. (Read Chief of Campus Operations Jim Brassord’s message to students, faculty and staff describing the College’s plan.) In the meantime, every member of the College community can do their part to conserve water, and prepare for more serious scenarios.
