As graduating high school seniors transition to college freshmen this summer, they’ll be choosing courses, housing assignments and much more. But before students choose these things, they have to choose where they want to go.
This year the Admission office at Amherst College received 8,555 applicants for the 465 places in the Class of 2016, and fewer than 13 percent of the applicant pool was offered admission as of May 30. At a recent on-campus preview of college life for students admitted to Amherst, Dean of Admission Katie Fretwell told admitted students who hadn’t yet made their final choice that the college wasn’t taking them for granted:
“I want you to know that we know that you know that we know that acceptance rate makes you among the most sought-after college applicants in the nation.”
For the students who did choose Amherst, the college’s office of Alumni and Parent Programs is planning a series of receptions across the country this summer for admitted students and their parents.
