Global Academic Fellows (for Writing) are recent college graduates who have achieved high distinction during their college and early professional careers and have demonstrated leadership in areas relevant to NYUAD’s various academic programs and overall institutional mission. Experience in tutoring, teaching or working in college writing centers is a bonus but not required. We are looking for fellows who are excellent writers and dedicated to the development of our students. Fellows play a unique and exciting role within the Global Network and on NYUAD’s campus, in that they provide specialized academic support to a truly diverse and engaging student body, while simultaneously modeling and carrying out one of the core institutional goals: interdisciplinary work and collaboration. GAFs are typically appointed for nine months, inclusive of a training institute prior to the start of classes.

Writing Fellows work in the Academic Resource Center and assist in the development and implementation of student resources at NYU Abu Dhabi. They play an important role in the writing program by participating in first-year writing courses and writing-intensive classes and working as consultants in the Writing Center. In addition, all GAFs interact with a variety of departments and individuals across the institution through their co-curricular project work, from Campus and Residential Life to the Sheikh Mohamed Scholars Program; from the athletic fields to the Center for Science and Engineering. GAFs also participate in ongoing staff development and are encouraged to work on their own writing projects over the course of the academic year.

GAFs are distinguished by their personal initiative, intelligence, flexibility, good judgment, enthusiasm, creativity and immense contribution to the success of all aspects of NYU Abu Dhabi.

Interested students should attend this information session and write to Writing Program Director Heidi Stalla with a letter of interest and the names of two faculty references.
