Kelly James Clark, Ph.D., senior research fellow at the Kaufman Interfaith Institute at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Mich., will speak on "Is Atheism Normal? Reflections on the Cognitive Science of Religion" at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, in the Pruyne Lecture Hall (115 Fayerweather Hall). Clark has held visiting appointments at Oxford University, the University of St. Andrews and the University of Notre Dame. He is a former professor of philosophy at Gordon College and Calvin College. He works in philosophy of religion, ethics and Chinese thought and culture. He is author or editor of more than 20 books, including "Return to Reason," "The Story of Ethics," "When Faith Is Not Enough" and "101 Key Terms in Philosophy and Their Importance for Theology." Clark’s "Philosophers Who Believe" was voted one of Christianity Today’s 1995 Books of the Year. He has recently been working with Muslims, Christians and Jews on religious liberty, teaming with local leaders in Turkey, Israel, Nigeria and Indonesia.
