Please join us in the Friendly Reading Room as Professors Andrew Poe, Thomas Dumm and Adam Sitze and Copeland Fellow Simon Stowe present "Terror & Catastrophe." In the modern era there has been a progressive shift of emphasis from a consideration of disasters as “acts of God”-- unpreventable and largely unforeseeable events that allow no useful preparation and produce no liability --to a growing perception of catastrophes as human-made affairs. This panel considers this turn squarely with its focus on terrorism in the larger frame of this year's Copeland Colloquium theme, "Catastrophe and the Catastrophic." This is the first of five presentations in a series on this topic and is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
