Please join poetry editor John Hennessy, University of Massachusetts Professor Stephen Clingman and special guests, including U.S. Poet Laureate Richard Wilbur '42, as they celebrate the launch of issue #4 of The Common. This issue includes a chapter from guest Robert Bagg '57’s new biography of Wilbur, as well as a 90-page anthology of new poetry from South Africa, guest-edited by Kelwyn Sole, one of that country’s leading poets and critics. The anthology includes work by internationally recognized poets such as Ingrid de Kok, Robert Berold, Yvette Christianse, Karen Press and Makhosazana Xaba, as well as emerging poets such as Katharine Kilalea, Nadine Botha, Khulile Nxumalo and Genna Gardini. This will be the first such anthology to be printed in the United States since "The Lava of This Land: South African Poetry 1970-1996," edited nearly 20 years ago by The Common contributor Denis Hirson.
