Octagon, Gerald Penny Center

Kwanzaa is a week-long celebration that honors the African heritage of the African-American community. At its core are seven principles that embody the culture of the Black diaspora: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith. The Black Student Union of Amherst College celebrates Kwanzaa through a traditional six-part ceremony. This year it will take place on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Octagon from 6 to 9 p.m. The ceremony features West African dancers, drummers, the Amherst College Gospel Choir and more. A soul food dinner will be served. All are welcome!
