Andreas Georgiou ’83 will give a talk titled “Statistics and Policy Making: The Case of Greece.” The talk will focus on the importance of statistics in effective policy making and good governance and will relate his five years of working as the head of the Greek Statistical Office.
In 2010, Georgiou was appointed the head of the Greek Statistical Office, after having served for 21 years as an economist at the IMF. His discoveries regarding the Greek deficit led him to the center of a political firestorm that included personal felony charges that could have led to a life in prison and enormous fines. While Georgiou’s term at the Statistical Office expired in August, Greece continues to pursue charges.
Come and listen to a committed alum tell of his career at the IMF and his dedication to his country.
