Senior Buddhist monk Ajahn Jayanto will give a talk considering the possibilities and priorities in our lives, from a Buddhist perspective. Ajahn Jayanto leads newly founded Temple Forest Monastery, the first Theravada Buddhist monastery in the Thai Forest Tradition—a key source of the modern mindfulness, MBSR and insight meditation movements—in our region of North America. Come join us for a rare encounter with the timeless wisdom of the Buddha as an ancient monastic order arrives in our contemporary moment.

This will also be an opportunity to bid farewell to retiring Writing Center Senior Associate Michael Keezing, who will speak briefly on his decision to leave Amherst College to set out on the path of an anagarika (monastic postulant) under Ajahn Jayanto’s direction.

This event is sponsored by the Writing Center, the Department of Religion and the Office of Religious & Spiritual Life.
