David Brakke is professor and the Joe R. Engle Chair in the History of Christianity at The Ohio State University. He holds a master's degree in divinity from Harvard University and a doctorate in religious studies from Yale University. Brakke is a scholar of history and literature of ancient Christianity from its origins through the fifth century, with special interests in asceticism, monasticism, "Gnosticism," biblical interpretation and Egyptian Christianity.
