Colleges thrive on the conviction that a degree is the key to success. But our campuses reflect society's uneasy relationship to people with disabilities. Despite legal protection, barriers exist which prevent many students with disabilities from reaping the benefits of higher education. Messy, sometimes contentious, and always effortful commitment to removing attitudinal barriers across all levels on campus is necessary to promote access. Campuses need to learn to work together to achieve this goal.
