Peter Kimani is an award-winning journalist, poet and fiction writer. He is the author of three novels: Before the Rooster Crows, Upside Down and, most recently, Dance of the Jakaranda. Of this last, The New York Times Book Review wrote, “I have never read a novel about [Kenya] that's so funny, so perceptive, so subversive and so sly." He was one of three international poets commissioned by National Public Radio to compose a poem for Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2009. Kimani is a founding faculty member of the Graduate School of Media and Communications at Aga Khan University in Nairobi, Kenya, and is currently the visiting writer at Amherst College. The event will be followed by refreshments.
