Events & Calendars "Reflections on Remote Embodied Practice," Presented by the Arts at Amherst Initiative

The Arts at Amherst Initiative is pleased to present a faculty panel on how embodied practice has transitioned to the remote learning environment. Join us for a conversation with Riley Caldwell-O'Keefe, director of the Center for Teaching and Learning; Christopher Durr, assistant professor of chemistry; Jenna Riegel, assistant professor of theater and dance; Jason Robinson, associate professor of music and chair of the music department; and Kathy Couch, lighting manager in the theater and dance department.

The panelists bring cross-disciplinary perspectives from the arts and sciences to share which aspects of their embodied practices were successfully adapted to remote learning and which aspects were lost. Panelists will present resources and technologies they have found most useful during this transition. This will also be an opportunity to reflect on how remote teaching has made us rethink equitable learning experiences for students and to brainstorm how academic models, such as mini-semesters, a summer semester and HyFlex teaching, could be best implemented in the 2020-2021 academic year.

Following the panel, there will be a Q&A, as well as an optional 30-minute period for attendees to remain on Zoom to catch up and share ideas.

This event is open to Amherst College faculty and staff.
