The SHEs Present: Sex Week 2020

Join the Student Health Educators in the Department of Health Education for Sex Week, an annual period of programming to bring awareness to sexual health, diversity, and pleasure.

Sex Week(s) is taking place between Monday, October 19, and Friday, October 30, and there are many different opportunities for all types of engagement. Please see the list below (and the attached Sex Week calendar) for more information!

Graphically Yours, Graphic Sex Project Co-sponsored with Student Activities
Monday, October 19th
In Person: Main Quad, Tent #3 (Rain Location: The Powerhouse) 3-6 PM
Virtual: 8-9 PM Eastern / Zoom: tinyurl.com/graphic-sex-project
Description: Graphs and grids have never been so sexy! As part of Sex Week 2020, stop by the Graphically Yours event to view the national Graphic Sex Project gallery and the growing Amherst College collection. See how others have mapped and graphed their own sexualities, and pick up a kit to graph your own! For students who are remote or want to participate virtually, join the SHEs on Zoom at 8pm EST.

Getting Sexy, Not Sick During COVID-19

Description: Stop by for an open conversation about safe and pleasurable sexual experiences during the pandemic. During this virtual workshop, we will provide resources and tools for students both on and off-campus so that they can make the most informed decisions when it comes to having safer and more pleasurable sexual experiences and maintaining safe COVID-19 practices.

Description: Join the Student Health Educators for a Sex Week workshop about self-pleasure, orgasms, sex toys, and more! Attendance enters you into a raffle to win Pleasure Activism by adrienne maree brown! Feel free to bring a sweet treat!

Attendees at each program can enter a raffle for a different book on sex & sexuality.

Sex Week Social Media Campaigns
Week 1 (Oct 19-23) Topic: All About Digital Sex - What it is, how it works, and how to do it safely
Description: Stay tuned for cybersex-related posts throughout the week & learn how digital sex can keep things fun during COVID-19.

Week 2 (Oct 26-30) Topic: Sex Work & Ethical Porn
Description: This week will center posts related to better understanding sex work and how to consume porn ethically.

Weekly Sex Week Trivia
At the end of each week the SHEs will post trivia questions related to that week's social media and program topics. Participants who answer correctly each week will be entered in a raffle for a sex & sexuality related book.

Instagram Live Q&A with the SHEs
Thursday, October 29th, Time TBD
As Sex Week 2020 wraps ups, the SHEs are hopping on Instagram live to answer students' sex-related questions.

All About Digital Sex: A SHE Sex Week Social Media Campaign

COVID-19 has prompted many things to move online - and sexual activity is no exception. Follow the Student Health Educators Facebook page and Instagram account, @ac_she, to learn about different types of cybersex & digital sex safety as part of our first Sex Week social media campaign.

Movement and Mindfulness Morning Workshops with Molly Kitchen

The OHR Learning & Development Team invites you to kick-start your day with invigorating, accessible movement as well as a few minutes of grounding meditation with Molly Kitchen. These workshops will set you up for a calm, focused day and provide you with practical mindfulness tools you can use and reuse any time. Schedule these breaks as a fun way to start your week, as well as to learn tips for keeping that energy alive each day.

Graphs & Grids Have Never Been So Sexy. The SHEs present Graphically Yours. Express your sexuality with cubes and conversation on Monday October 19th. A Conversation with Award-Winning Filmmaker Brett Story

The Department of Art and the History of Art and the Program in Film and Media Studies is excited to present a conversation with filmmaker Brett Story, who will be discussing her award-winning film The Prison in Twelve Landscapes. Brett Story is a filmmaker, writer and geographer based in Toronto. Her films have screened internationally at festivals such as CPH-DOX, the Viennale, SXSW, True/False and Oberhausen. Her most recent feature documentary, The Hottest August, was a New York Times Critics’ Pick and is currently playing cinemas and festivals around the world.

Brett has held fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the Sundance Documentary Institute. Her 2016 feature documentary, The Prison in Twelve Landscapes, was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Hot Docs Documentary Festival and was a nominee for Best Feature Documentary at the Canadian Screen Awards.

Brett is the author of the book Prison Land: Mapping Carceral Power across Neoliberal America and co-editor of the forthcoming volume Digital Life in the Global City. She holds a Ph.D. in geography and is currently an assistant professor in the School of Image Arts at Ryerson University.

QRC: Questioning/Exploring Affinity Space

An affinity space hosted by the Queer Resource Center for students looking for an open space to talk to others who are exploring or questioning their gender, sexual, and/or romantic identities! Participants are encouraged to participate in the degree you feel comfortable (feel free to join without your camera, mic, and to communicate using the chat function).
