Arabic Language Table for First-Year Arabic Students

This Arabic language table is a weekly conversation group for first-year Arabic students. We meet every Thursday in the upstairs seating section of the Valentine Dining Hall and anyone who can communicate in Arabic at the first-year level is welcome to attend. Syonara Tomoum will be present as a moderator.

German Film Series: “Transit”
Gripping drama that updates to the present the acclaimed 1943 novel by Anna Seghers about refugees from Nazi Germany. A young man assumes the identity of a deceased writer, hoping to escape Europe through the port of Marseille. Here, he meets the writer’s wife, who—unaware of her husband’s death—involves the man in her own efforts to flee.
This film will be shown at both 4 and 7:30 p.m. in German with English subtitles.
TV Writers Studio Info Session: Long Island University’s MFA in Writing and Producing for Television

Join William Rabkin, assistant director of the MFA program in writing and producing for television at the TV Writer’s Studio, as he shares insights about the field. Rabkin of Long Island University’s TV Writers Studio, which grants an MFA in Writing and Producing for Television, is a 30-year veteran writer, producer and showrunner in television. He has worked on such shows as Monk, Psych, and Diagnosis Murder.
Rabkin works closely with Emmy Award-winning veteran screenwriter, director, producer, and showrunner Norman Steinberg to make LIU Brooklyn’s TV Writers StudioSM an environment where students experience what it is like to be a writer and producer of a TV series.
The underlying philosophy of the TV Writers Studio is that, given a well-designed curriculum, the right team of mentors, appropriate technical resources and sufficient time, a group of talented graduate student writers, working collaboratively, can develop a TV series that is broadcast worthy. It is through this process that the students will develop the full range of skills, knowledge and experience necessary to enter the profession of television writing and production.
“A New Thanksgiving: Indigenous Frameworks on Food and Language”
All are invited to a panel discussion and a meal to celebrate a new Thanksgiving with an indigenous framework with the I-Collective, a group of indigenous chefs, activists, herbalists, and seed and knowledge keepers. Meet members of the I-Collective, celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Mohawk Freedom School, and learn about the importance of passing on food, language and recipes to preserve Native cultures.
Join us in dialogue to create new narratives of Thanksgiving for 2019 with special guests including Neftali Duran, Hillel Echo-Hawk and Elvera Sargeant.
This program is offered in collaboration with the I-Collective, Mohawk Freedom School, INCA and Book & Plow Farm and is presented in conjunction with the Mead’s EAT! Museum Seminar.

French Movie Night! "Les Choristes"
All are welcome to join our French Language Assistants, Jiji and Réjane, for the screening of Les Choristes. This 2004 drama, directed by Christophe Barratier, tells the heart-warming story of a kind and gifted music teacher who makes a difference in the lives of his troubled students in a boy’s reform school. This film will be screened in French with English subtitles. You will find us on the second floor of King Hall. Refreshments will be served!

Now through November 22, help ACPD support the Counseling Center’s efforts to help those in need. Please donate new, unused, self-care products such as lotion, deodorant, shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, dental floss, tampons, panty liners, soap, body wash, laundry detergent or chapstick. Travel size is also accepted.
Locations to donate: ACPD, dispatch; New Science Center, 1st floor near water feature; Keefe Campus Center, manager’s office and Valentine Dining Hall, basement, reception desk.
