Russian Table offers an opportunity to gather and converse with other Russian-language learners and teachers. Come for the whole time or drop in for a shorter conversation; all levels of Russian speakers very welcome!

The music department has commissioned a large-scale work to commemorate the centennial of the 19th amendment, to be premiered in the fall of 2021 by Amherst's own Choral Society, the Jazz Ensemble and the Amherst Symphony Orchestra.  Please join us on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 5:30 p.m. EDT, as we talk with composer Reena Esmail and librettist Rebecca Howell to discuss this momentous undertaking.

Reena Esmail has been commissioned by ensembles across the U.S., including the Yale Institute of Sacred Music, Chicago Sinfonietta and Santa Fe Desert Chorale, and she is the Los Angeles Master Chorale's 2020-2023 Swan Family Artist in Residence. 

Rebecca Gayle Howell is poetry editor for Oxford American and the author of two critically acclaimed collections, American Purgatory and Render/An Apocalypse.

Please join us every Tuesday night from 7pm-8pm EDT for our zoom Kaffeeklatsch gathering, an hour of stress-free chatting (and games?!) auf Deutsch with faculty, language assistants, students, and staff. All are welcome, including German 101 students!

Join poet Shayla Lawson as she reads from her new essay collection This is Major: Notes on Diana Ross, Dark Girls, and Being Dope, which has been called “a hilarious, heartbreaking, and endlessly entertaining homage to black women’s resilience and excellence” (Kirkus Reviews). A Q&A with Lawson follows the reading. This event kicks off the Amherst College Creative Writing Fall Reading Series.
