Amherst College held its Winter Carnival on Feb. 22 on Memorial Field. Students, staff and faculty, together with families, enjoyed a towering bonfire, rides on the horse-drawn haywagon driven by Barry Roberts of Muddy Brook Farm and ice-carving demonstrations by Amherst College Chefs Jeremy Roush and Peter Thornton. Northampton's Pyro Productions dazzled the crowd with an array of fire-dancing, fire-eating and fire-spinning displays. The slopes were perfect for the campus's wintertime tradition of sledding with dining hall trays. The evening was capped off with an array of hot food and drink provided by the college's Dining Services-- the hot apple crisp was the favorite.
