Student Arrival and Semester Plans, Vaccinations and More

Student Arrival and Semester Plans

  • At this time, the College’s plan for the spring is to welcome students back to campus for classes starting on February 15.

  • The first week of classes will be remote, as students will not be allowed to move about campus until they have had the requisite number of negative test results.

  • In the event that COVID-19-related circumstances prevent students from returning to campus, the semester will still begin on February 15, but all classes will be remote until the College’s COVID-19 safety standards are met and students can return.

Temporary Premium Pay Policy: Spring 2021

We are pleased to announce that the temporary premium pay policy will be reinstated for the spring semester.

  • For regular and casual non-exempt employees, the policy will begin January 31. It will start on February 1 for exempt staff in non-supervisory positions who are deemed essential and are required to do 80-100 percent of their work on campus.

  • An exception has been made to include a very limited number of working supervisors. A working supervisor is someone who leads a group and performs the same essential functions employees reporting to them perform, specifically in operations support roles.

  • Eligibility for premium pay is:

Salary Range

Up to $49,999

  • Your direct supervisor or division leader will let you know if the premium pay policy applies to you. If you have any questions, please contact them directly.
  • The temporary premium pay policy will end in late May. This policy is subject to reevaluation if there are any significant changes to the College’s operational needs.

Appreciation Bonus

A reminder that the appreciation bonus of $1,000 that is being given to all faculty and regular and casual staff, part-time and full-time, who were actively employed as of December 18, will be added to paychecks this month. It is subject to required tax withholdings.

First Responders, First Vaccines

This week Amherst College first responders (police and public safety, health services and Testing Center staff) are eligible and are receiving their first round of the COVID-19 vaccine as part of phase one of the state’s COVID-19 vaccination program. Thank you to the town of Amherst for organizing the vaccine administration program. We’re so grateful for the many ways our first responders are Keeping the Herd Healthy!
