March 25, 2020

Good Morning, Good Afternoon, and Good Evening (depending on where you are in the world right now)!

I know it has been a few days since I have written. I hope that the first days of the remote learning experience has been as smooth as possible and that you've been taking care of yourselves. New information is less frequent now but I will continue to send updates and share resource information twice a week moving forward. Please continue to reach out to members of the faculty, staff, and your peers as we work together to remain connected. Below I have provided links to campus resources - the library, the writing center, the Loeb Center, the Center for Community Engagement, and the Counseling Center. Each link contains information about how you can access these resources during this period of remote engagement. There is also information about a new Mental Health platform available to each of you and how to join the Daily Wellness Zoom.

Please continue to take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

Sincerely,

Liz Agosto
Dean of Students

NEW Mental Health Platform: As our campus community adapts in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, it’s normal to feel stressed, anxious or overwhelmed. As part of our commitment to our students’ whole health, we’re working with SilverCloud, a clinically proven online mental health platform, to offer programs that build resilience, help you manage anxiety or depression, and help you develop skills to manage stress and sleep issues. Based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness and positive psychology, these action-oriented programs build self-awareness and self-management skills for your emotional health.

To sign up, please visit gsh.silvercloudhealth.com/signup/ and choose Amherst College from the dropdown list to get started.

Please note, to confirm your eligibility, you will need to use your school-issued .edu email address. This service is confidential and your email address will not be used outside of the SilverCloud platform.

Daily Wellness Zoom

The Daily Wellness Zoom will provide the Amherst community with an opportunity to engage in a different 10 to 15-minute wellness activity each day to help reduce stress during this difficult time. The Zoom will be held from 12:00-12:15PM EST from March 23rd to the 27th and is open to students, staff and faculty. Activities will include gratitude practices, relaxation exercises, journaling, and humor. You may join any day or every day using this link https://amherstcollege.zoom. us/j/953823346. Depending on the size of the group, participants may be invited to engage in conversation or chat, and you are also welcome to simply listen in. Please share with anyone who may be interested. You may contact Jessica Gifford (jgifford@amherst.edu) for more information.
