Dear Faculty and Staff,

Here is the update for March 24, 2020.

ICYMI: Update on Amherst’s Financial Situation

Yesterday, Chief Financial Officer Kevin Weinman sent an all-campus email to the community providing some early insights on how the coronavirus pandemic might impact the College’s financial situation. He discussed the global economic slowdown, Amherst’s financial strengths and uncertainties about the future.

Commencement and Reunion

President Martin has announced that the in-person Commencement ceremonies originally scheduled for the Class of 2020 in May have been postponed until the College can safely hold the event. This year’s Reunion Weekend has been canceled as well.

Call for COVID-19 Prevention Supplies

Medical providers are still in need of the following unused items: National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health-approved N95 masks, hand sanitizer, surgical masks, nitrile (not latex) gloves and/or disposable gowns. Do you have some to donate? Contact Rick Mears,, about how you can get them to the appropriate first responders.

Student Support

During this time of uncertainty and transition, if you are concerned about a student that you are working with, whether they are on or off campus, please submit a CARE report. The report activates a team of Office of Student Affairs staff and will result in a student receiving compassionate outreach and an offer of support. While many of our support services have transitioned to the virtual environment, we remain committed to our students’ well-being and to providing support.
