Dear Faculty and Staff,

Here is the update for March 26, 2020.

Senior Honors Recommendations, Thesis Grades and Prize Nominations: Deadline Change

The deadline for senior honors recommendations, thesis grades and prize nominations has been extended: all are due to the Registrar’s Office by May 15 (instead of May 5). Please note, however, that deadlines for student theses are set by the department. Thesis advisors should be in touch with their thesis students about departmental deadlines.

Reminders

Contact Tracing

While the College has no reason to believe anyone connected with the Amherst community has been confirmed to have COVID-19 at this time, that is likely to change as the illness inevitably spreads. If/when that happens to you or someone within your circle of family and friends, we ask you to please alert Chief of Amherst College Police John Carter at 413-542-2291 or jbcarter@amherst.edu. This will enable Chief Carter to reach out to the appropriate public health authorities and initiate a contract-tracing process aimed at limiting further contagion on our campus and beyond.

Remote Work Resource Exchange

After transitioning to a remote work model last week, workload demands may be difficult to predict and plan for at times, requiring creative solutions to ensure the College’s business continuity. In response, the Office of Human Resources has created a number of tools to support supervisors, department chairs and staff in this endeavor. Please go to HR’s Resources for Remote Work page for more information.

Availability of IT Virtual Support Desk Daily

IT’s experiment with virtual support desk hours has been deemed a success! If you’d like to talk to someone face to face about a technology issue you need help with, visit the IT homepage from 1 to 2 p.m. each day for Zoom connection details.

Ombuds Availability

College Ombuds Larry Hunt can meet with interested faculty and staff members over the phone, by Zoom or by FaceTime. Please email him at lhunt@amherst.edu to set up an appointment.
