Join Amanda Villareal '12, outreach specialist for GENaustin, the Girls Empowerment Network of Austin, and organizing fellow with Battleground Texas for the Wendy Davis Campaign.

Amanda attributes her transition into policy and campaign work to her Amherst education. While at Amherst, Amanda began to think more critically about the macro-level issues affecting women and girls, and she founded the Amherst Women’s Network-- a continuing initiative to foster community between women on campus and the alumnae network. After graduation, she worked in women’s and girls’ policy in Washington, D.C., with the Girls Inc. Public Policy Office, the American Association of University Women and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. While she loved her D.C. work, Amanda felt she needed to go home to Texas, where she could work firsthand on the issues she cared about, particularly those affecting Latinas. She loves being in her hometown and is happy to be working in her fields of interest.

Panera bread and soup will be served. Space is limited. RSVP to Laura Litwiller at llitwiller@amherst.edu by no later than noon, Thursday, Feb. 6.
