The Amherst College Spanish Department is pleased to present a lecture by Michael R. Gordon: “Battle for North Africa: Cervantes, Lope de Vega and the Creation of the cautivo Genre.”

Gordon comes to us from the University of Wisconsin, having received his M.A. in Spanish from Middlebury in Madrid and his B.A. magna cum laude in Spanish and history from Duke University. In May 2014, he will defend his Ph.D. dissertation “The Jews of Cervantes’ Mediterranean and Their Representation in Spanish Cautivo Literature.” Gordon’s specialty is Golden Age Literature. He holds a minor in Italian studies and is the author of four articles.

This lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.
