Converse Hall, Porter Lounge

Students interested in marketing, advertising and business are encouraged to attend this Food for Thought lunch conversation with Amherst parent Rich Stoddart, the CEO of Leo Burnett, USA. Join the conversation with Rich and learn more about the field of advertising, what they are looking for in applicants and how you might get started in the field.

This lunch conversation will be held on Friday, Feb. 28, at 12:30 p.m. in Porter Lounge (third floor of Converse). Soup and salad from Panera Bread will be served. Space is limited. Please reserve your seat by emailing crsharick@amherst.edu.

Not long after joining Leo Burnett in 1985, Rich Stoddart knew why he loved working in advertising: “No other field, I realized, calls for such a unique combination of business analysis, the study of human behavior and the insatiable desire to be creative and forward-thinking.” Twenty years later, following stops at Fallon and on the client side at Ford Motor Company, Rich returned to Leo Burnett as president, North America, to bring these elements together and create ideas that “wake people up and have an impact on the world.” And thanks to campaigns like Allstate’s much-loved “Mayhem,” Special K’s “What Do You Gain When You Lose?” and the World Wildlife Fund’s movement-inspiring “Earth Hour,” Leo Burnett’s clients are building purpose-driven brands for the long term. “Marketers today create value by doing, not saying,” Rich says. “And in a world in which the power of creativity has never been greater, I’m proud to lead an agency that’s using its creativity to help clients grow their businesses and make a positive difference in people’s lives.”
