The Amherst Symphony Orchestra opens its 2023-2024 season: "Profiles in Courage" and canonic "Second Symphonies," performing Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait" (1942) as well as the final two movements of Charles Ives' Symphony #2 (1902). The program also includes the Overture to Oklahoma! (1943) by Richard Rodgers, "Lyric for Strings" (1946) by George Walker, and "Talowa' Hiloha" ("Thunder Song") (1997) by Chickasaw classical composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate.

President Michael Elliott of Amherst College will be our honored guest narrator for Copland's "Lincoln Portrait." Kai Glashausser '23 and Clara Hoey '24 are timpani soloists in "Talowa' Hilhoa."

Admission is FREE, and the performance is open to the public by general admission.
