Nominations for Commencement Speaker and Honorary Members of the Graduating Class

On March 22, 2022 each graduate had the opportunity to nominate a classmate to be the student speaker at Commencement. Each graduating senior could nominate up to four graduating seniors (including themselves). The seniors who received the most nominations were invited to participate in Senior Speak-Off on March 30, 2022 in Johnson Chapel. 

Honorary members of the class were also nominated. Graduating students could nominate up to five faculty or staff to whom they wished to express appreciation at the Senior Assembly. Previous recipients have included retiring members of the faculty and staff, as well as employees from the Library, Health Services, Dining Services, Facilities, and College Police.

Nominations for Senior Speaker and Honorary Class Members were due by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2022. 

Senior Speak-Off

This year’s Senior Speak-Off will be held in Johnson Chapel on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Graduates nominated by their classmates will each deliver a three-minute speech representative of the speech that they would deliver at Commencement. The student who receives the most votes will be invited to deliver a 10-minute speech during the Commencement ceremony. Two runner-up speakers will be selected for Senior Assembly. 

Senior Assembly

Senior Assembly will take place on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 5 p.m. ET to honor the academic achievements by members of the graduating class and will feature addresses by a faculty speaker and two student speakers, as well as a presentation of the 2022 Honorary Class Members.
