The Best Sports Photos of 2011

For Amherst athletics, 2011 was a very good year indeed. Women’s basketball won its first NCAA championship. After being named NCAA National Swimmer of the Year for Division III, Kendra Stern ’11 began training for the U.S. Olympic Trials. Women’s soccer not only took home the NESCAC title but also upset one of the nation’s best teams in the NCAA Tournament. The football team was one of the greatest ever at Amherst, finishing with an 8-0 record and the NESCAC title for the second time in three years. In fact, this past fall, for the first time Amherst history, three teams won NESCAC titles in the same season: football and men’s and women’s soccer. Amherst photographers captured many of the greatest moments of the year in sports. From several hundred photos, we’ve picked our favorite 19 of the year.
