The Amherst College community mourns the loss of Christopher Collins ’20, of Wakefield, R.I., who passed away on March 29, 2018. He was a mathematics major and a former member of Amherst’s baseball team. A campus gathering was held on March 30 to remember Chris and to provide support for his friends and family.
“Chris was loved for his thoughtfulness and kindness, his genuine curiosity about others, and his love of family, friends, music, baseball and writing, among many other qualities,” President Biddy Martin noted in an email to the community.
Chris’ baseball teammates have also written a tribute to him, remembering his smile, his friendship, his joy and passion for the game, and the courage he demonstrated in his struggles with anxiety and depression.
An obituary is available here with more information, including how to donate to the Christopher Collins Memorial Fund, set up to shine a light on mental illness.
