AMHERST, Mass.-The Beatles tribute band “1964” will perform in the Frontroom of the Keefe Campus Center at Amherst College at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28. The concert, sponsored by the Amherst College Program Board and music department, is free and open to the public.
The performers of “1964” are Mark Benson (John), Gary Grimes (Paul), James Pou (George), and Greg George (Ringo), who spent years researching the “Fab Four.” From the Beatle boots, vintage outfits and Vox amplifiers, to the mannerisms, speaking voices and unique harmonies, they recreate a live Beatles concert to perfection both musically and visually.
Alistair Taylor, former president of Apple Records for The Beatles, said of a “1964” performance that “the resemblance was uncanny, it sent shivers down my spine. It was just like the boys. Never have I seen another group go to such detail.” George Harrison's sister Louise was so moved by “1964” that she gave them a party at her home.
"1964" was voted Best Major Concert Act and Best Contemporary Act by the readers of Campus Activities Today magazine, Contemporary Music Artists of the Year by the National Association for Campus Activities, and Campus Entertainers of the Year by the Canadian Association for Campus Activities. They have appeared on scores of local television and radio programs throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America, in addition to touring the world.
