AMHERST, Mass. - Tenor Anthony Dean Griffey will present a free recital on Friday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall at Amherst College. This program of lieder and art songs is free and open to the public, thanks to the John Tennant and Elizabeth Collins Adams Fund for Music.

Anthony Dean Griffey holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the Juilliard School. Among his operatic appearances are the title role of Britten's Peter Grimes and Sam in Floyd's Susannah with the Metropolitan Opera, Lennie in Of Mice and Men with the Glimmerglass Opera and the New York City Opera, and Mitch in the world premiere of Andre Previn's A Streetcar Named Desire at the San Francisco Opera.

He also sang Peter Grimes in concert at the Tanglewood Music Center under Seiji Ozawa and performs the role at this season's Glyndebourne Festival. He has given many recital and concert performances, including the tenor solo in a televised performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony led by Maestro Ozawa for the opening ceremonies of the 1998 Winter Olympics, Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and the title role in a concert performance of Mozart's Idomeneo at the Mostly Mozart Festival.

Of a recent performance with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Andre Previn, the Boston Globe wrote, "Tenor Anthony Dean Griffey produced large and gleaming tone and displayed subtle musical and verbal intelligence. He is an altogether exceptional artist."
