AMHERST, Mass.- The Los Angeles Piano Quartet will open the 2000-01 Music at Amherst Series on Friday, Oct. 13, at 8 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall at Amherst College, with music by Beethoven, Harbison, and Brahms.
On Friday, Nov. 3, at 8 p.m., the Wihan String Quartet, from the Czech Republic, will play quartets by Beethoven and Janocek.
On Thursday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m., the Gryphon Piano Trio, from Canada, will offer piano trio classics as well as contemporary compositions.
On Tuesday, March 13, at 8 p.m., pianist Robert Levin, who is also giving a fortepiano recital in Smith College's Sage Hall Concert Series in the fall of 2000, will give a recital of Romantic and contemporary works on the modern piano.
On Friday, March 30, at 8 p.m., the chamber orchestra Les Violons du Roy, led by Maestro Bernard Labadie, will present a program featuring masterpieces of the Italian Baroque, as well as two concerti grossi by Handel.
On Sunday, May 6, at 8 p.m., the Nash Ensemble, from Great Britain, will perform chamber music for oboe, strings and piano.
In addition to the Music at Amherst Series, there will be a free recital by tenor Anthony Dean Griffey on Friday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. at Buckley Recital Hall. This program of lieder and art songs is free and open to the public thanks to the John Tennant and Elizabeth Collins Adams Fund for Music.
