AMHERST, Mass.—Memoirist and fiction writer Thomas O’Malley will read from his work at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, in Fayerweather 117 at Amherst College. This event, sponsored by the Creative Writing Center, is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

The Washington Post described Thomas O’Malley’s debut, In the Province of Saints, as “A gorgeous and heartbreaking tale of a sad Irish boyhood,” and The New York Times Book Review called it “a familiar Irish song, but the words will break your heart.” O’Malley’s fiction has been anthologized and also published widely in such literary journals as Ploughshares and Glimmer Train. He is a recipient of the Grace Paley Fellowship at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Mass. and currently teaches fiction writing at the Gotham Writers’ Workshop in New York City.

The Amherst College Creative Writing Center puts on a yearly reading series featuring both emerging and established authors. More information is available at the writing center’s website.
