AMHERST, Mass.—The Music at Amherst Series will open the second half of its 2008-09 season with the acclaimed Orion String Quartet on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 8 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall of the Arms Music Center at Amherst College.

More than 20 years after the Orion String Quartet’s inception, they remain one of the most sought-after ensembles in the country. They are applauded for the fresh perspective and individuality they bring to their performances of diverse repertoire.

Making their Music at Amherst debut, the Quartet’s program will include Wolf’s Italian Serenade; Webern’s Six Bagatelles for String Quartet, Op. 9; Beethoven’s Quartet in F Minor, Op. 95, “Serioso”; and Mendelssohn’s Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 44, No. 1.

On Mar. 8 at 4 p.m., the Music at Amherst season will close with pianist Boris Berman’s performance of works by Chopin and Debussy.

Individual tickets to all concerts go on sale two weeks prior to the event date. For more information, contact the Concert Office at concerts@amherst.edu or 413/542-2195. Visit the series’ Web site at www.amherst.edu/academiclife/departments/music/musicatamherst.
