AMHERST, Mass.—The Seventh Annual Five College PoetryFest will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, in Pruyne Lecture Hall of Amherst College’s Fayerweather Hall. The PoetryFest celebrates the quality and range of student poetry in the Pioneer Valley and is sponsored by Amherst and Five Colleges, Inc. It is open to the public at no charge.

Originally conceived in 2003 as a way to celebrate the art of poetry by recognizing accomplished student poets, the Five College PoetryFest invites two writers from each school to read selections from their work and to contribute to a chapbook of poems commemorating the event. The two students from each campus are chosen by a selection process determined by their own school, and those invited to read their works receive a gift certificate courtesy of a local bookshop. Their poems are collected in a handsome volume, which is available at the reading.

This year’s poets are: Rachel Edelman and Catherine Champion from Amherst College, Unique Robinson and Cassandra de Alba from Hampshire College, Sarah Coates and Emily Yates from Mount Holyoke College, Kate O’Connor Morris and Stephanie Woodruff from Smith College and Sarah Levine and Susan Thorpe from UMass Amherst.
