AMHERST, Mass.—The Amherst College Department of Music will present a fully-staged performance of Evita, a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, on Thursday, March 26, through Saturday, March 28, at 8 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center at Amherst College.

The winner of multiple Tony awards (including Best Musical), Evita chronicles the rise to power of Eva Perón, the charismatic and popularly revered wife of the Argentinean President Juan Perón. As the First Lady of Argentina, was Eva a true champion of her people or a ruthless Machiavellian? As her dramatic foil Che (modeled on iconic revolutionary Che Guevara) concludes, perhaps she was both.

Amherst’s production of Evita will be directed by A. Scott Parry, with music direction of the cast and orchestra by Mark Lane Swanson. The concert is open to the public. Tickets can be reserved by e-mailing concerts@amherst.edu. Seats cost $8 for the general public and $4 for Five College students with ID and are free to Amherst College students with ID.
