Jazz@Schwemm’s Spring Semester Performances Slated for March 31 and April 7, 14, 21

AMHERST, Mass.—Amherst College’s Jazz@Schwemm’s music series will kick off for the spring semester Tuesday, March 31, at 9 p.m. with a performance by the Yusuf Salim Tribute Project and student combo Telepathic Milk. The Jazz@Schwemm’s program, which features concerts by students and local professionals on the four subsequent Tuesday evenings in Schwemm’s Backroom of the Keefe Campus Center at Amherst, is free and open to the public.

-- April 14—Miro Sprague Duo and student combo the Ortho Normal Basist
-- April 21—Open Sky Trio and student combos Reservoir Cats and HQLA
Jazz@Schwemm’s is a collaborative initiative of Alex Rodriguez ’07 and Amherst biology professor Dominic Poccia. Its goals are to increase the jazz presence on campus and give students the chance to interact with performance as a backdrop to their other normal daily activities. Previous featured performers include Poccia’s Ecclectic Jazz Quartet (EJQ); Ron Tiersky, Joseph B. Eastman ’04 Professor of Political Science; Jason Robinson, visiting professor of music; Bruce Diehl, director of the jazz program; Ann Maggs, vocal jazz teacher; Rob Faulkner, professor of economics at UMass; and numerous student jazz groups.
