AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College Jazz Ensemble will perform with visiting professor and saxophonist Jason Robinson in the group’s annual Family Weekend concert on Friday, Nov. 6, at 8:30 p.m. in Buckley Recital Hall in the Arms Music Center at Amherst College.

Under the direction of Bruce Diehl, the Jazz Ensemble and their featured artists will perform music of the big band era as well as some current tunes.

Robinson is fascinated by the relationship between improvised music, experimentalism and cultural identity. His current performance interests include the intersection of improvisation and composition, new electro-acoustic processing and interaction enabled through software-based technologies, and the relationship between popular music and experimentalism. He performs regularly as a soloist (acoustically and with electronics), with groups he co-leads (Cosmologic and the Cross Border Trio), as a leader of varying ensembles performing his original music and in a variety of collaborative contexts. His latest albums include his fourth release as a leader—Cerberus Rising—and the fourth release by Cosmologic, Eyes in the Back of My Head. When not on campus, Robinson performs at festivals and prominent venues in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe.

Tickets can be reserved in advance beginning on Oct. 26 by emailing concerts@amherst.edu or calling 413/542-2195. They will also be available at the door. Ticket prices are $8 for the general public, $4 for seniors, children and students with ID. Admission is free for Five College students with ID.
