AMHERST, Mass. –David Leonhardt, an economics columnist with The New York Times, will give a lecture titled “How Do We Grow From Here: The American Economy After the Great Recession,” at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3, in Cole Assembly Room of Amherst College’s Converse Hall.

Leonhardt writes the Times’ weekly Economic Scene column, which appears on Wednesdays. He is also a staff writer for The New York Times Magazine and contributes to the Economix blog. He has been writing about economics for the Times since 2000 and was one of the writers who produced the paper’s 2005 series on social class in the United States. Recent stories for the magazine have included “The Big Fix,” about the long-term problems facing the American economy, and “After the Great Recession,” a Q&A interview with President Obama. His August 2008 story “Obamanomics” won the Gerald Loeb Award for magazine writing.
Leonhardt studied applied mathematics at Yale. Before coming to the Times, he worked for Business Week magazine, in Chicago and New York, and for the metro desk of The Washington Post. At the Times, David founded an analytical sports column, Keeping Score, which ran regularly from 2004 until 2006.
