News & Events Senior Music Major’s Original Choral Suite to be Performed at Amherst College Feb. 13

AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College Department of Music will present “Sing to the Hours: the Maryhill Canticles,” a senior composition thesis by Joseph Smeall ’10 on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. in the Rotherwas Gallery of the Mead Art Museum. The concert is free and open to the public.

“Sing to the Hours” is a choral suite structured around the progression of the Roman Catholic liturgy of the Hours. The composition—which was influenced by classical,  American folk and blues traditions—will be performed by “Wisconsin Harmony,” an ensemble comprised of Amherst College Choral Society and a cappella group members.
